My grandmother (9)
My grandmother is 74 years old, and her name is Karna
Magrethe Sørensen, but she is most called "Mumsen". She lives in Esbjerg and
has four brothers and to children (to daughters). One of the daughters, my mother Gitte,
also lives in Esbjerg. The second and oldest of the two, Laila, lives in Bergen in Norway.
My grandmother was married with a railwayconductor, Niels, who died 16 years ago of
cancer, they have been married over 30 years when he died.
She was born in Skjern, in the west of Denmark, the 18 of October 1921.
First she moved to Varde and then to Esbjerg. She also has a summer cottage in Ho, that
builded she with her husband in the seventies. She likes very much to be in that house,
especially in the summer when the weather is good.
In the summer cottage, she has a really big garden, with flowers,
trees, and so on. There she spends a great amount of her time, planting, cutting trees and
taking care of her plants. She has also many plants at her apartment home in Esbjerg.
To get round in Esbjerg she takes her bicycle, because she doesn't has
any driving licence, she even takes trips to Blåvand from Ho some time. But from Esbjerg
she takes the bus to Ho, because there is too far on bicycle, and she can't have much
luggage on her bicycle. Unfortunately this year she falled, and broked her arm, so she
wasn't very much in her summer cottage this year.
She bakes very often cakes (very good cakes) and so. Frequently she
drops by and visits us with homebaked cake, on her bicycle. (25/9-1996)
